The Cell 2

This movie is awful. If you saw The Cell and were thinking ‘Wow AWESOME, gimme more of this’, then please don’t go see this movie.In the ‘first’ movie (I’m starting to think that the relation between the two is nothing more than the name and the first two shots of the second one) the dream scape was immersing, creative and beautiful, sometimes in a creepy way. In The Cell 2, the dream scape is just a cheap effect, a few squiggly lines at the edges of the screen. Story-wise, it lacks any continuity. Instead of having to be suspended in the air, hooked up to some extreme high tech system in weird suites, the main character is half awake while in the back of a plane, holding a personal item of someone involved. Somehow, they took that awesome dreamsurfing equipment and made it some bluetooth dongle stuck to her head. Furthermore, The shots look cheap, as do the sets. The tactics used by the police or swat are not remotely realistic, and quite frankly, make them look like a fart of the antagonist could blow them away. Now all of this would not be ultimate game-breaking stuff, but i just saw The Cell 1 only two hours ago and was hoping for some more psychedelic-dreamy-crime-horror-thriller-sexy-chicks(lopez) movie, but instead, I got ‘ a shot at the enormous-time ‘Not every director has a huge budget, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but somehow this director acquired a ‘ The Cell ‘ license and then ran out of money. Now there will never be a The Cell 3.

Balls Out: Gary the Tennis Coach

When I first approached this movie, I thought from most of the reviews and comment that it was going to be horrible. The truth was that the script and dialog was absolutely horrible. I felt like I was being dragged through a bunch of kindergarten jokes. The story was unbelievable and either not satirical enough or too satirical. Most of the comedy was not like anything I had seen before, like Napoleon Dynamite meets The Office. It’s like the writer was waiting for me to laugh, but I never did.On the rare occasions that I did laugh, it was caused by Seann William Scott’s acting or Danny Leiner amazing way of saving this film. Perfect timing on some of the sequences and just the right angles resulted in a some what funnier film than that would have just been the script. Seann William Scott’s awkward and unusual play at Gary makes for an interesting look, yet sometimes I wondered if even Scott knew what Gary was going to do next.Overall, I enjoyed this film besides the overkill of homophobia humor. I thought it was a new take on Tennis, and made me laugh at certain points. It was great to see Danny Leiner direct a comedy that didn’t include two guys and a car. I don’t recommend it, unless you have some free time or are a fan of Seann William Scott, but it wasn’t the worst of them all.

God, the Kish storyline keeps on trucking, and I’m just so happy with it. The acting has been great, and it’s so nice to see an American gay storyline on a soap with good writing. Plus, Friday we got some bonus Scott Evans hotness, with a little shirtlesness and a whole lot of shapliness in some snug fitting boxer briefs. Salty goodness.

Urban Legends: Final Cut

Several film students at an isolated university campus are targeted by a serial killer who patterns his/her crimes after various urban legends.John Ottman’s unnecessary sequel is a disastrous jumble of humor and horror which isn’t nearly as funny or frightening as the filmmakers might have hoped, and the visual references to various classic movies (most notably the VERTIGO-inspired climax) seem entirely superfluous. Most of the murders are routine, except for a grisly decapitation inspired by a similar sequence in Dario Argento’s INFERNO (1980), but the rest of the movie adheres strictly to formula, as a masked killer strives to frame weak-willed heroine Jennifer Morrison for a galleries of brutal crimes. Only two of the characters from the original URBAN LEGEND (1998) have been retained: Loretta Devine as the campus security guard whose aspirations toward COFFY-style bravery are finally realized during a climactic confrontation with the killer, when he/she makes the mistake of trying to punch her out (Devine retaliates with the best line of dialogue in the entire movie!), and Rebecca Gayheart in an unbilled cameo which should raise a smile amongst devotees of the original film.
